Q 2:187: Bismillah
Made lawful (uḥilla; √Ḥ-L-L; the knot untied) for you, on the night of the fast (ṣiyām; √Ṣ-W-M; standing still, holding from motion), is the unveiled going-in (rafath; √R-F-TH; the act, and the saying of it without veil) to your women. They are covering for you and you are covering for them (libās; √L-B-S; the covering, and the making-indistinct, 2:42). He knew (ʿalima; √ʿ-L-M; ʿalam, the raised landmark that tells one place from another) you had been defrauding your own selves (takhtānūna; √KH-W-N; a trust breached; VIII, taken to the self), so He turned toward you (tāba; √T-W-B; turning back around) and wiped you clear (ʿafā; √ʿ-F-W; wind effacing a track until nothing marks it). So now go in to them (bāshirū; √B-SH-R; bashara, the skin; surface meeting surface) and seek (ibtaghū; √B-GH-Y; to seek, and to pass a bound, 55:20) what Allah ﷻ has written for you (kataba; √K-T-B; to stitch, to join). And eat and drink until the white thread stands apart for you (yatabayyana; √B-Y-N; bayn, the gap between two; V, becomes-apart, no agent, lakum, to you) from the black thread (khayṭ; √KH-Y-Ṭ; the thread that sews, khayyāṭ, the tailor), of the dawn (fajr; √F-J-R; cleaving open, water splitting rock, 2:60). Then complete (atimmū; √T-M-M; bringing to fullness; presupposes a thing underway) the fast to the night. And do not touch skin to them while you are held fast (ʿākifūna; √ʿ-K-F; staying fixed upon and not leaving) in the places of prostration (masājid; √S-J-D; places of lowering the forehead; recd. mosques). These are the limits (ḥudūd; √Ḥ-D-D; the cutting edge, ḥadīd, iron) of Allah ﷻ, so do not come near them (taqrabū; √Q-R-B; to come near; a standoff and not a line, cf. 2:35 against 2:229). Thus does Allah ﷻ make His signs stand apart (yubayyinu; √B-Y-N; II, causative, makes-apart, agent named) for the people, that they may guard themselves (yattaqūn; √W-Q-Y; raising a shield).
